21st Annual Trek 100 Continues the Tradition of Hope

Trek Bicycle Corporation and the MACC Fund, Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc. announce that over 2300 cyclists participated in the 21st Annual Trek 100 on Saturday, June 12.

The ride began at Trek Bicycle Corporation’s headquarters in Waterloo. John Burke, President of Trek Bicycle Corporation of Waterloo, Wis. and Jon McGlocklin, President and co-founder of the MACC Fund welcomed cyclists who came from 24 states and from many foreign countries to participate in the one-day event!! McGlocklin and Burke sent riders off in waves with the help of some of the children who have benefited from MACC Fund supported research and the UW-Madison marching band!

The ride offered cyclists a 19, 36, 62 or 100 mile loop through the beautiful rural area of Southern Wisconsin. Rest stops located along the course offered riders a chance to get off their bikes and reenergize with natural spring water, fresh fruit, high energy bars, great energy gels and friendly words of encouragement from volunteers. Bike mechanics from local Trek dealers also provided mechanical support.

Upon returning to Trek Bicycles, riders enjoyed post-ride festivities featuring music and food hot off the grill. The celebration included a fajita barbecue sponsored by the Silver Spur Texas Smokehouse BBQ, micro-brews from the Capital Brewery and relaxing massages.

Upon receipt of all pledges, the MACC Fund is projecting more than $500,000 will be contributed to support childhood cancer research.

Collaborative research efforts are responsible for significant improvements, treatments, and increased cure rates of childhood cancers. The overall cure rate for childhood cancers has increased from 20% to 80% during the past twenty years with some as high as 90% with previously deadly cancers. Research is conducted at both the Midwest Children's Cancer Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa and the Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center at the University of Wisconsin Paul Carbone Cancer Center in Madison.
