September 2009 - Kids Helping Kids
Dear Friends:
The crisp morning air tells us that summer is past. The MACC Fund once again was fortunate to benefit from the generosity of so many people. The Chili's MACC Open signaled the start of the summer golf tour. The 20th Anniversary TREK 100 was a great homecoming event at Trek's impressive Waterloo, Wisconsin headquarters and was attended by over 2,400 riders. Despite the challenges we all face, the MACC Fund's friends stepped up all summer as they have for nearly 33 years.
One important group which not only helped us this summer but throughout the year are at the heart of the MACC Fund--Kids! I am always so touched when I see kids helping kids. It's not something we simply say, it is something that kids actually do. And they do it well.
The creativity and energy of "Kids Helping Kids" inspires hope in many ways. It truly inspires hope in our future. This past year, kids held fundraising events including selling origami designs, orchestra concerts, battle of the bands, haunted houses, lemonade stands, the state's all-star basketball game, other basketball games and tournaments, a premier high school golf invitational, student and faculty games and even Buzz Cuts!
Taking a page from kids fighting cancer, each event offered challenges and opportunities for the dedicated kids.
Over the past year, despite the economic challenges, Kids Helping Kids raised over $175,000! That's not surprising given the power of today's youth. We see it in the battles they wage each day against cancer and blood disorders, and we also see it in their desire to raise funds to provide hope through research.
Kids Helping Kids at the MACC Fund has proven that heroes truly do come in all sizes. Hope is still alive and well.
Please join me in thanking kids from all over the State in saying "Thank You!" for all that you are doing to defeat childhood cancer and blood disorders.
If you or a child you know is interested in getting involved with Kids Helping Kids, please contact our office at 414.456.5830 or email us at info@maccfund.org.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of children with cancer and blood disorders.
Blessings,
