The Brookfield Jaycees have contributed more than $200,000 to the MACC Fund in support of critical pediatric cancer research. This amazing donation represents proceeds from their annual Basketball Marathon which will celebrate its 22nd incarnation in 2006.
The 22nd Annual Brookfield Jaycees Basketball Marathon will round out March madness the weekend of March 24-25. The action tips off at 6pm on Friday, March 24th and games continue through Saturday, March 25th. All are welcome to participate, pledge or watch the Marathon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 12130 West Center Street in Wauwatosa.
Local companies, church groups, families, friends and other organizations get teams of all ages and level together to play hard and raise pledges for the MACC Fund and critical pediatric cancer research. Teams get one full hour of full-court time complete with referees and professional scorekeeping.
Jeff Hansen of the Brookfield Jaycees has been a part of this event since its inception: “Getting together, playing a game we love and having fun…it’s a great way to raise money and awareness for the MACC Fund and children fighting cancer.”
The MACC Fund was founded in 1976 upon the retirement of Jon McGlocklin from the Milwaukee Bucks. Since that time $25 million has been contributed to research resulting in overall cure rates that now reach 80%. “We’re proud to be a part of the MACC Fund Team,” said Jeff Hansen.
The primary beneficiary of MACC Fund support is the Midwest Children’s Cancer Center with research conducted in the MACC Fund Research Center of the Medical College of Wisconsin. Funding is also provided to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
